“By the speaking of this truth…”

To name my blog “Etena sacca-vajjena…” ["By the speaking of this truth..."] appears terribly arrogant; as if the words I write are somehow much more important than they are.  Rather than making pronouncements as to how the world should behave or think or act, my intent is to quietly reflect on my behavior and thoughts and actions.

The ellipse that follows the title implies that there is more to the statement than I quoted.  And there is much more.

In choosing a passage from the Buddha dhamma as the title for my teaching blog, I am neither trying to promote nor to explain Buddhism.  Instead, it is a reminder that dialogue and teaching are best fostered in a spirit of  metta [loving-kindness], karuna [compassion], mudita [sympathetic joy], and upekkha [equanimity].
